 Job Summary: 

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the maintenance technician position performs a variety of general or semiskilled maintenance and repair work in support of the city’s facilities, streets, and drainage infrastructure. The maintenance technician operates a variety of light, medium, and heavy construction, and maintenance equipment, assists in skilled trade assignments, and ensures that tools, materials, and vehicles are maintained in good working order and are available when needed.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Performs unskilled and semiskilled manual labor tasks to maintain and repair streets, infrastructure, right-of-way, and drainage systems. Duties may vary according to job assignment.

  • Operates a variety of light, medium, and heavy construction and maintenance equipment.

  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools to assist in the routine maintenance of equipment.

  • Participates in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.

  • Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance of equipment, vehicles, tools, and facilities and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.

  • Performs minor repairs to equipment, vehicles, tools, and facilities.

  • Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and industry standards.

  • Maintains overall cleanliness and proper functioning of work areas, tools, and machinery after use.

  • Responsible for the general groundskeeping of city facilities including but not limited to mowing, and landscaping, along with upkeeping the city's right of ways and drainage areas.

  • Performs minor electrical, HVAC, welding, fabricating, carpentry, and plumbing projects that do not require a certified technician.

  • In the event of a departmental or City-wide emergency (i.e., flooding, winter storm, etc.), may be required to respond after-hours, including holidays and weekends, to support recovery and restoration efforts.

  •  Maintains records and prepares reports of work performed and materials used.

  • Performs other related or assigned duties as required.

Requirements: 

  • Minimum of two (2+) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of roads or facilities, landscaping, heavy equipment operations, or other related trades.

  • Requires frequent lifting, moving, lowering, pushing, or pulling of 25-150 lbs.

  • 95% of work will be performed outdoors or in the field.

  • Must have High a School Diploma or GED

  • Must have a Valid Class ‘C’ Texas Driver’s License.

  • Must have a clear background check, driving record, and drug screen.

Department Specific: Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.
